A small hobby breeder of pet Chinchillas in New Orleans, Louisiana! Welcome! If you have been considering adding a chinchilla to your family then you have come to the right place. I breed my chins to be well-socialized, friendly and rewarding pets. I have over 12 years of experience with chinchillas. All babies are handled and loved from birth to the day they leave my home. I also make and sell handcrafted polymer clay Chinchilla jewelry and gifts including pins, magnets, pendants, earrings and Christmas ornaments. Click on "Chinchilla Creations" to the left to check them out! Do you have a chinchilla you can no longer care for? Please contact me via e-mail thechinchillagirl@yahoo.com I may be able to foster your chinchilla or help you find her/him a new home. |

My Practices and Policies I breed and sell my chinchillas as PETS ONLY. I do not support or belong to any organization that promotes the pelting of chinchillas, such as the MCBA. I am a proud member of The Chinchilla Club and The Chin-Knights. I respectfully request that anyone who is interested in purchasing a chinnie from me (or any other breeder) do some extensive research first (www.chincare.com is excellent!). Chinchillas are amazing and wonderful pets but they are not the right pet for everyone. They require a lot of care and attention. They also need a large cage, many supplies and toys and chews that must be changed frequently - all of which can become quite expensive. Chinchillas live a long time, the highest I have heard is 26 years! I have a 14 year old that I have had since she was 6 months old and she is still going strong. Keep this in mind if you plan on going to college, moving, etc. and will not be able to take the chinnie with you. It isn't fair to you or the chinnie to get passed around from family to family. If you are not willing, ready, or able to devote a significant amount of income, time and love to the chinchilla then please do not buy one.All of my chinchillas are in monogamous pairs. I give females a 1-2 month break in between litters and a 6-8 month break every three litters. Females are "retired" at age 7, which means that they are taken out of breeding and paired with another retired female. All of my chins, whether retired or breeders receive the same care, attention and love. I feed my chinchillas Oxbow brand chinchilla pellets, fresh timothy hay or orchard grass, and fresh water. Various dried fruits and cereals are given sparingly as treats. I use aspen bedding, or sometimes Carefresh (which is the best bedding for chins). All of my chinchillas live in multi-level cages. They have igloos/nest boxes to hide in, leap n' ledges, chin-chillers, critter ka-bobs with various wooden chews that I change weekly, ceramic chinchilla bath houses, fleece hammocks, two ceramic dishes, 16 ounce water bottles, and various other toys that I change periodically. All chinnies get a supervised free-run at least every other day in a covered play pen that contains many large toys and chews. I handle my chinnies daily and I treat them with respect and love. They are part of my family. I firmly expect and require that any home/family that one of my babies goes to will give it the same amount of love, care and attention that it has received from me. Please note: I require potential buyers to complete and submit a 4 page adoption contract/competency review. Click here to e-mail NOLA Chinchillas |
